FIA Formula 3 International Trophy Marco Wittmann triumphs in Pau, Abt narrowly misses podium
Marco Wittmann celebrated a dominant lights-to-flag victory in his Dallara F308 Volkswagen in the Formula 3 Grand Prix in Pau. Wittmann started from pole position, held the lead throughout the entire race and won by a 14.943 second margin after 35 laps. As a result he is the first German to win this traditional street race in South France since Jörg Müller in 1996. The German Daniel Abt, also "powered by Volkswagen” put in a strong performance and only just missed the podium after finishing fourth.
Swedish Touring Car Championship Fredrik Ekblom wins at Mantorp Park
Swede Fredrik Ekblom celebrated his second victory of the season at the third Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) weekend at Mantorp Park. Starting from pole position, Ekblom in a Volkswagen Scirocco CNG fielded by team Biogas.se kept his toughest opponent Rickard Rydell at bay and won by a mere 0.742 seconds. In the second race Ekblom scored more points in sixth place. As a result he now lies second in the championship standings after three of nine race weekends. Team mate Patrik Olsson finished ninth and eighth.
Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup From the ski jump to the Scirocco: Ski jump legends train for Spielberg
Earlier they jumped for Olympic gold, now the ski jump legends Sven Hannawald, Thomas Morgenstern and Adam Malysz fight it out in the next Scirocco R-Cup race at the Red Bull Ring at Spielberg (3 to 5 June). A total of four gold, five silver and one bronze is the trio's impressive haul of medals in Olympic competition. The field of legend starters is completed by former Alpine downhill World Champion Michael Walchhofer and Super G Olympic silver medalist Hans Knauß. Hannawald, who is also a front runner in the ADAC GT Masters, will test the powerful 275 hp bio Natural Gas Scirocco for the first time together with Morgenstern and Walchhofer at Oschersleben on Tuesday.
