Johnny Herbert debut with Scirocco GT24-CNG

Formula 1 Grand Prix winner, 24 Hours of Le Mans victor, but never a single race on the Nordschleife: This was previously the case for Johnny Herbert who made his debut this weekend in the Nürburgring endurance championship. The 46-year old Briton drove a Scirocco GT24-CNG to victory in the class for cars with alternative drive together with Dakar winner Nasser Al-Attiyah and Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen with responsibility for Technical Development. In contrast, the test race for the Golf24 as preparation for the 24-hour race in June was over early: Nicki Thiim spun off the track in the second lap after being nudged by a competitor, slid into the barrier and had to retire.
