Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup Daniel Lloyd wins at the Lausitzring
A string of captivating overtaking maneuvers: In the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup Daniel Lloyd celebrated his first victory in the world's most eco-conscious one-make cup also thanks to the push-to-pass system that provides a short-term power boost of 50 hp. The 19-year-old advanced from position five on the grid and even grabbed the lead from pole sitter James Mobley. The American dropped to third place some of the time and saved his final push-to-pass shot for the last minute to overtake the leader of the standings, Mateusz Lisowski. The motorcycle stars in the Legends classification made for spectacular racing action as well. Ralf Waldmann decided it in his favor in front of Aleix Espargaró and Max Neukirchner.
British Formula 3 Championship Five out of nine possible podium places go to Volkswagen at Brands Hatch
Title defender Volkswagen made another top-form showing in the British Formula 3 Championship on the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch. A victory and five out of nine possible podium places were achieved by the partner teams running with Volkswagen Power. Felipe Nasr and Rupert Svendsen-Cook secured second and third place for Carlin Motorsport in round one, while Menasheh Idafar was successful for T-Sport as the runner-up and Carlos Huertas for Carlin Motorsport in third place in round two. The wet third race was clearly dominated by Felipe Nasr: The Brazilian grabbed more than 24 seconds on the racing distance from his compatriot Lucas Foresti (Dallara-Mercedes).
Swedish Touring Car ChampionshipTwo podium places for Fredrik Ekblom on the city street circuit in Gothenburg
At the fourth race weekend of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) two podium places went to Fredrik Ekblom in the Volkswagen Scirocco of the Biogas.se team. On the city street circuit in Gothenburg Ekblom finished the first round on a dry track as the runner-up. At the second round the Swede showed a strong performance and in pouring rain pushed forwards from seventh on the grid to third place. After four of nine race weekends Ekblom with a two-point gap is the runner-up in the standings. After a brake defect in the first race his team colleague Patrik Olsson finished the second round in seventh place. Alexander Graff finished his debut in the biogas-powered Scirocco on positions 17 and 16.
Volkswagen Polo Cup India Prasad and Abdullah make for a dream opening race in the Polo Cup India
A perfect weekend for Vishnu Prasad and a podium place debut for Alisha Abdullah: The Polo Cup India wrote not just one but several good stories on its season opener at Coimbatore. From the pole position Vishnu Prasad secured victory at the first race of the season and decided the second round in his favor after having started from position eight and making a remarkable recovery. The only lady in the field, Alisha Abdullah, was almost able to take advantage of the reversed grid of the top eight from the first race. In round one she had dropped to position twelve due to body contact with a rival but then recovered to eighth place and thus had the pole position for the second race. On ten laps she held up to the pressure of her rivals before Prasad and Mihir Dharkar overtook her. Nevertheless, her third place represents the first podium finish by a woman in the Volkswagen Polo Cup India.
Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup China Sam Yao and Stefano Montesi triumph at Chengdu
Turbulent action at the second round of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup China season at Chengdu: In both races the safety car had to be deployed. In the first round the American Sam Yau remained unperturbed by the events and celebrated a commanding start-finish victory in front of the Italian Stefano Montesi. In the second round pole sitter Yan Ren spun in turn one and caused an accident involving four other vehicles. After six laps Stefano Montesi took the lead and won in front of the Frenchman Patrick Boulaud. Yau finished in eleventh place.
Volkswagen Racing Cup Griffin and Mason celebrate race wins at Brands Hatch
Kieran Griffin in the Volkswagen Scirocco R and Aaron Mason in the Golf GTI secured the victories in the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Brands Hatch. The first round at the Grand Prix circuit south of London was won by Griffin in front of Steve Champion in the Volkswagen Beetle and Mason. The latter won the second round on a drying track in front of James Walker who is at the wheel of a Golf GTI as well. Third place went to Steve Chaplin.
