Impressive Scirocco R-Cup show at DTM presentation in Wiesbaden
The Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup was showcased with plenty of demo laps at the DTM presentation in Wiesbaden. 17-year-old Jonas Giesler, who took to the wheel of the 285 hp Cup Scirocco, was thrilled by his chance to drive in front of 72,000 spectators. He was the youngest driver in the Volkswagen racing series last year and is competing in his second season in 2012. The appearance of the Volkswagen R-Cup in the capital of the state of Hesse gave the audience a taster of what to expect next weekend when the world’s most environmentally friendly one-make cup gets under way in Hockenheim. South African Rally Championship Podium finish for rally driver Hans Weijs Jr.
Volkswagen driver Hans Weijs Jr. and his co-pilot Björn Degandt scored a third-place victory in the Sasol Rally. This is the best result so far for the Dutch-Belgian duo, who are competing in the South African Rally Championship for the first time. Finishing in sixth place overall, Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin won the S2000 Challenge for older S2000 vehicles with four-wheel drive in their Volkswagen Polo in the second race of the season.
