ATS Formula 3 Cup Kimiya Sato captures lead of the standings

Kimiya Sato dominated the ATS Formula 3 Cup at the Sachsenring. The Japanese clinched a commanding start-finish victory on Saturday and won the third race with the new Volkswagen power engine including the push-to-pass system as well. In the second race, the 22-year-old finished as the runner-up barely missing victory by 0.607 seconds. The maximum number of points in this case went to Rene Binder, who was thus able to celebrate his first win. In the drivers’ standings, Sato has now taken the lead with 101 points ahead of Jimmy Eriksson (73 points) and Lucas Auer (65).

Jazeman Jaafar in the Volkswagen Dallara F312 took victory on Saturday. The second race saw Harry Tincknell finish as the winner in front of Pietro Fantin and Jack Harvey. In the third race Carlin driver Harvey was the first to see the checkered flag again, with Carlos Sainz jr., who had to relinquish his lead of the standings to Jaafar, finishing on position three.

The Swede Gustav Malja shone at the third race weekend of the ADAC Formel Masters at the Sachsenring. The 16-year-old youngster, like all drivers in the field, pilots a 145-HP Dallara “powered by Volkswagen” and celebrated his first triumph in the junior series on Saturday. Malja won the second round in front of Kremer and Jeffrey Schmidt as well. Race three was stopped after three accidents without being classified.

Volkswagen driver Hans Weijs jr. and his co-driver Björn Degandt clinched another place in the top ten by finishing the third round of the South African Rally Championship as the best Volkswagen duo in fifth place. Guglu Zulu and Carl Peskin in eighth place overall were successful too, scoring their second consecutive win in the S2000 Challenge for older four-wheel drive S2000 vehicles.

Volkswagen Racing Cup Mason and Fuller win at Rockingham

Golf GTI drivers Aaron Mason and Howard Fuller won the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Rockingham. Race one saw Mason cross the finish line first in front of James Walker and Joe Fulbrook. In the second run, Walker and Fulbrook again finished in second and third place behind race winner Fuller.
