Scandinavian Touring Car Championship Volkswagen driver Kristoffersson wins at Mantorp Park
Johan Kristoffersson in a Volkswagen Scirocco CNG was able to increase his championship lead at the fourth of the eight round Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) season in Mantorp Park, Sweden. The Swede from Volkswagen Team Biogas won the first race convincingly with a 2.769 second advantage. He finished the second race as best Volkswagen driver in fourth place ahead of his brand team mates Patrik Olsson, Johan Stureson and Jordi Gené. In the overall standings Kristoffersson now has a nine point cushion from Chevrolet’s Rickard Rydell in second place.
ATS Formula 3 Cup Eriksson dominates at Oschersleben
Two wins and a third place: the third ATS Formula 3 Cup race weekend at Oschersleben was well worthwhile for Jimmy Eriksson. The Swede was dominant in a start-to-finish victory on Saturday and also won the third race convincingly with the new Volkswagen Power Engine incorporating the push-to-pass system. Kimiya Sato won the second race. The Japanese benefitted from a slip-up by Yannick Mettler, who was second ahead of Eriksson. The race ended early after ten laps due to heavy rainfall. In the championship standings the Swede, now with 141 points, takes the lead from Sato (124 points) and the Austrian Lucas Auer (91).
Volkswagen Polo R-Cup India Hede wins opener – Duez celebrates historic victory
The Volkswagen Polo R-Cup India celebrated a spectacular season opening: in a turbulent race around the Kari Motor Speedway in South Indian Coimbatore, Avdumber Hede took victory in the new Volkswagen Polo R-Cup with TSI engine ahead of Mihir Dharkar. Newcomer Sandeep Kumar completed the podium. Munjal Savla, who started from tenth on the grid before finishing fourth, also produced a great performance. Diego Duez wrote motorsport history in the second race: the Mexican is the first international competitor to win a Volkswagen Polo R-Cup race in India. Duez took the chequered flag ahead of Alisha Abdullah and Prashanth Tharani Singh.
Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup China Reggiani and Cheng victorious in Ordos
Andrea Reggiani made a perfect start to the weekend at the fourth round of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup China at Ordos. After taking pole position in qualifying the Italian celebrated a commanding start-to-finish win and, in doing so, also posted the fastest race lap. Ida Masahiko (J) and the Taiwan-Chinese George Chou took second and third respectively at the finish. The US-American David Cheng won the second race ahead of Ida Masahiko from Japan and the Italian Stefano Montesi. Montesi leads the overall standings with 103 points from Masahiko (96).
Volkswagen Racing Cup Neuhoff and Gilham win at Spa
Golf GTI drivers Mike Neuhoff and Tony Gilham won the two races in the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. In the first race Neuhoff beat his competitors Gilham and James Walker in Scirocco R to the top step of the podium. In the second race around the legendary track in the Ardennes James Walker (Scirocco R) and Golf GTI driver Stewart Lines made the winners’ podium.
