British Formula 3 Championship Jaafar assumes overall lead after super weekend
Volkswagen driver Jazeman Jaafar catapulted himself to the head of the overall standings in the British Formula 3 Championship following an outstanding weekend at Silverstone. The Malaysian’s victory in race one was followed by two second places in the following races. Carlos Sainz Jr. (one second place) and Harry Tincknell (two third places) clinched further top three positions in Great Britain for Volkswagen. Jaafar took the overall championship lead three races before the end of the season. Third and fourth places were taken by Jack Harvey and Carlos Sainz Jr. two more Volkswagen drivers.
Scandinavian Touring Car Championship Two podium finishes for Volkswagen at Knutstorp
The Volkswagen squad pocketed two podium finishes in the seventh Scandinavian Touring Car Championship race weekend. In the first race around the Knutstorp track it was Swede Patrik Olsson, who took second place with his Scirocco CNG. In the second race Olsson’s team mate Jordi Gené (Spain) also mounted the podium for IPS Team Biogas thanks to his third place.
Porsche Supercup René Rast is crowned Champion
Volkswagen Junior René Rast clinched the Porsche Supercup championship title in close head-to-head finale. The German won at the last race weekend at Monza from his closest rival in the overall standings, Kévin Estre, and in doing so had a three point advantage over the Frenchman after eleven events. The former Volkswagen Junior Nicki Thiim was delighted about third overall and winning the Rookie classification.
GP3 Series Daniel Abt narrowly misses title after magnificent Monza weekend
The former Volkswagen Formula 3 driver Daniel Abt concluded the GP3 Series season with best result of the season. In a nerve wracking final race at Monza, Abt had the championship title within his grasp as he led the race. At the finish he came up only two points short of achieving this incredible feat. The youngster from Kempten won the first race after starting from seventh on the grid.
Volkswagen Racing Cup Martin Depper celebrates two wins
Man of the weekend during the sixth round of the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Silverstone was Martin Depper. The Briton won both races at the wheel of his Volkswagen Scirocco R. Golf GTI driver Jim Cartwright also climbed the podium twice thanks to his second and third places. James Walker finished third in race one, Peter Felix second place in race two.
Volkswagen Endurance Cup Netherlands Win for Ferry Monster Autosport 2 at Assen
The victorious team at the sixth round of the Volkswagen Endurance Cup Netherlands is Ferry Monster Autosport 2. Second place and one lap behind in the 6-hour race at the TT Circuit Assen was Team FIA Racing. The podium was completed by the drivers of the third placed team Koledo Wédéflex. In the Dutch one-make cup every participant competes in a Volkswagen Golf.
