Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) Successful title defense - Volkswagen Junior Andreas Mikkelsen makes history
Andreas Mikkelsen ensured his name went down in Intercontinental Rally Challenge history. The Norwegian Volkswagen Junior became the first driver ever to win the drivers’ title twice in succession. Although the 23-year old had already been crowned champion before the season concluding Cyprus Rally, he still tackled the event in attacking style. A thrilling dogfight flared up between Mikkelsen and Nasser Al-Attiyah, who won the Dakar Rally for Volkswagen in 2011. Al-Attiyah prevailed in the end. Another Volkswagen Junior, the German Sepp Wiegand, finished fifth and scored a good result in Cyprus.
South African Rally Championship One-two finish for Volkswagen in season finale
Victorious conclusion for Volkswagen in the South African Rally Championship. The two driver crews of Hans Weijs Jr./Björn Degandt and Enzo Kuun/Guy Hodgson finished first and second in the final event, the Garden Route Rally, of the 2012 season. During the two day event through Wilderness, George and Knysna, Weijs/Degandt recorded seven of a possible eleven fastest stage times in their Volkswagen Polo S2000 and, in doing so, finished 34 seconds ahead of their team mates Kuun/Hodgson in the BP Volkswagen Rally Team.
