Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 27, 2010… As part of the dealer network expansion, MINI of Baltimore County, MINI’s newest dealership in the US, has opened its doors for business, and will celebrate its grand opening in MINI’s typical fun fashion on Wednesday, April 28 with customers, MINI executives and political dignitaries from the region.
The new facility was built to relocate MINI of Towson, one of the first dealerships to sell MINI vehicles when the brand was introduced to US customers in 2002. Located along one of Baltimore County’s main thoroughfares, the new facility significantly increases MINI’s visibility, and positions the brand alongside several key competitive manufacturer dealerships, making it an easy stop for customers who are car shopping in the area. The new dealership also better serves MINI customers who live in southern Pennsylvania and other locations in the Baltimore Metro area.
“The expansion from the previous dealership to MINI of Baltimore County is symbolic of the brand’s growth as a whole,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President, MINI USA. “We are grateful for the dedication of our dealer network and remain committed to providing an expanded vehicle portfolio that enables our dealers to offer a product to all customers who are aligned with the MINI attitude.”
MINI of Baltimore County will add approximately 20 new employees to compliment the staff transferring from the prior location. The all-new facility spans 32,000 square feet and sits on a four-acre site. The dealership includes a showroom that displays seven new vehicles, a MINI boutique, 20 service bays, and a dedicated MINI parts and accessory department.
“As a passionate advocate of the MINI brand, I am convinced of MINI’s long term viability, and was compelled to invest in the brand’s future and our market here in Baltimore,” said Lou Cohen, Dealer Principal and co-owner, MINI of Baltimore County. “We now have a facility that promises every customer a premium MINI dealership experience, whether they visit our sales department, our service department or the MINI boutique for accessories.”
The grand opening festivities will start at 6 PM with a ribbon cutting ceremony conducted by Baltimore County Councilman, Kevin Kamenetz. Other political dignitaries that have been invited and are attending include Maryland State Senators Bobby Zirkin and James Brochein, and Delegates Jon Cardin and Dana Stein. MINI USA executives, Dr. Wolfgang Armbrecht, Senior Vice President, MINI Brand Management; Jim McDowell, Vice President, MINI USA; and Wayne Orchowski, Vice President, BMW Group Eastern Region will also be in attendance.
Additional MINI fun throughout the evening will include a first-class catered affair including a wide variety of MINI-size foods; a British Pub serving British beer, fish & chips and shepherd’s pie; and an ice sculpture MINI that will flow MINI-TINIs. Beatle acoustic Duo (featuring John and Paul) will provide music and the evening will be capped off with a cake cutting ceremony... but this is no ordinary cake. It is prepared by Fancy Cakes by Leslie and is shaped like a 2010 MINI Cooper S Hardtop, complete with an aero kit, union jack flag, side scuttles, mirror caps and driving lamps.
The opening of this new dealership is another step in MINI’s effort to grow its dealer network this year from 90 to 100 exclusive stores by summer time. The brand will continue to grow thereafter in markets where a stronger MINI presence is needed, opening stores in cities where MINI has never been before. Once the expansion plan is complete in 2011, MINI will have roughly 115 stores in the US.
