ATLANTA, August 3, 2010 -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera Gran Turismo in the United States, today announced July sales in the U.S. of 2,703 units compared to the same month last year when it sold 1,544 new cars, an increase of 75 percent. This represents the best single-month sales results for the German auto maker in two years in the U.S.

July’s strong showing pushed Porsche’s year-to-date results to 13,687 cars compared to the same period in 2009 when it sold 11,203, up 22 percent.

July also represented the end of Porsche’s 09/10 fiscal year. Despite having dealt with another very turbulent period in the U.S. economy, PCNA closed the fiscal year up 16.6 percent with total sales of 22,180 versus 19,024 in the previous fiscal year.

Nearly all models in Porsche’s portfolio enjoyed strong showings during the month of July. Leading the way was the four-door Panamera, which enjoyed sales of 807 units for the period – its best single-month total since it first went on sale last October.

Sales of Porsche’s popular Cayenne SUV also increased for the month of July with sales of 910, up 68 percent from the previous year when sales were 541. The results demonstrate a strong and positive consumer response to Porsche’s recent launch of the all-new 2011 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo, both of which arrived at dealerships throughout the country in June. Later this fall, the company will begin selling the all-new 2011 V6 Cayenne and a Cayenne S Hybrid.

While the overall sports car sector continued to be challenged by the economy in the U.S., Porsche still enjoyed some relative success. Porsche’s mid-engine sports cars, the Boxster and the Cayman, recorded robust sales of 392, an increase of 11.4 percent for July, while the German automaker’s iconic 911 sports car recorded sales of 594, a drop of 9 percent over the same period in 2009 when sales were 651.

In addition, dealers sold 523 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned cars in July versus 515 for the same period last year.
