Michelin Pilot Super Sport selected for the new F12Berlinetta

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport, the world’s fastest series-produced tire on the track(1), will be fitted on the brand new F12berlinetta, the most powerful Ferrari ever.

The Italian manufacturer, after its previous successful collaborations related to the development of the tires for the 599 GTO and the FF, has once more chosen Michelin among the original equipment suppliers for the new F12berlinetta.

The Michelin tires designed for the most powerful Ferrari ever owe their excellence to Michelin’s years of success in the world’s most demanding endurance races. These include the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which the tire maker has scored 14 victories in a row. These technologies, born from the expertise acquired on the racetrack, have been transferred to the road tire ranges, as is the case for the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

Due to the following technologies developed at its Research and Development Center, Michelin has designed tires capable of handling the power and torque of the 740bhp 6,262cc V12 engine, which powers the F12berlinetta, to the benefit of the motorist’s driving pleasure:

Tri-Compound and Bi-compound Tread

Derived from the technologies Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tri-Compound and Bi-compound Tread developed and used in endurance racing, this innovation uses different rubber compounds on the left and right sides of the tread. On the outside, a unique elastomer specifically developed for racing tyros ensures exceptional endurance.

The sizes of the Michelin Pilot Super Sport developed for the new F12berlinetta are: 255/35 ZR 20 front, 315/35 ZR 20 rear.

(1) The tire recorded the fastest lap time against its five leading competitors in a dry-circuit test conducted in 2010 by TÜV SÜD Automotive, an independent organization, using 245/40 ZR 18 Y and 235/35 ZR 19 Y tires.
